Mazda Miata Owners Barely Drive Their Cars: Study

Image
The Mazda MX-5 Miata is the everyman's sports car. It's reliable and practical, and designed to be used every day without huge compromise. Yet, according to the latest study by iSeeCars.com , Miata owners barely drive their cars. The study analyzed odometer readings from over 1 million three-year-old used cars sold between November 2024 and April 2025, finding that, on average, owners drove 12,307 miles per year. The MX-5 Miata emerged as the least-driven car of the vehicles analyzed, averaging just 5,073 miles per year—less than half the average.   The GMC Hummer EV came in second place, averaging 5,205 miles per year. And in third place was the MX-5 Miata RF—the retractable fastback body style—at 5,375 miles per year. Here's the full list of the top 10 least-driven cars, according to iSeeCars.com: Model Avg. Miles Driven Per Year Compared to Avg. Mazda MX-5 Miata 5,073 0.41x GMC Hummer EV 5,205 0.42x Mazda MX-5 Miata RF 5,375 0.44x Mini ...

Pirelli Has a new Street-Legal Racing Tire for the US. We Tested It

Image
The Pirelli engineers are a bit jealous of us Americans. Speaking at the launch for the new P-Zero family at Monza, they tell us how nice it must be to have a thriving grassroots club-racing and track-day scene in America, and so many great road courses for us to drive. Realizing there was a huge market, Pirelli created a new DOT-approved track-only tire exclusively for the US, the P-Zero Trofeo Track. And good news for the tariff-weary—Pirelli is making these in its Rome, Georgia factory.   This near-slick tire is aimed at various SCCA and NASA championship series, which require tires that have DOT approval. These are technically street-legal tires, but you really shouldn't use them outside of a track. "It's basically a slick tire, with some tread designed to make it comply with the DOT, but it'...

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport Has Real Sports Car Cred

Image
The concept of a "sporty" RAV4 sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it? Sure, some brave, brilliant souls have turned early RAVs into off-road machines. But that story entertains us because  a RAV4 shouldn't be out there bashing rocks, not because of its history as an enthusiast vehicle.  So when Gazoo Racing—Toyota's in-house tuning arm—takes a swipe at the RAV4, courtesy of the new-for-2026 GR sport trim, you can call us cautiously curious; cars with a GR badge on the trunk became some of our favorites over the last decade. For instance, the GR Supra has steadily improved during its production run and become a legitimate sports car. The GR Corolla's the last great manual hot hatch on these American shores, and the GR86 just plain rocks; it's an instant classic.   The GR Sport's Upgrades, Explained So what does the "GR" treatment mean for the RAV4? We're praying for something beyond a smidge of badge engineering. New info from To...

Porsche Shifts Course, Leans Into Hybrids Instead of EVs

Image
Like a lot of automakers, Porsche made an aggressive push towards EVs. Its initial plan was for 80 percent of its sales to be fully electric by 2030, but at its annual shareholder meeting Wednesday, CEO Oliver Blume said that's not going to happen, though not for lack of trying. So now, it's putting more emphasis on hybrid options, while still continuing to expand its range of EVs. "Our goal was to deliver more than 80% fully electric sports cars by 2030. One of the most ambitious goals in the entire industry," Blume said in prepared remarks. "Our product strategy would still allow us to achieve this. In view of market developments, it is not realistic. Our BEV ramp-up will therefore adapt flexibly. To demand and market developments." Customers haven't taken to electric Porsches like the brand once hoped. Taycan sales fell globally last year, which Porsche said was at least in part due to a heavy refresh for the model, but also because t...

Sheesh: Someone Paid $1 Million for an NSX-R

Image
If there was any lingering doubt that the original Honda NSX was a classic (sold in the States as an Acura), this should dispel that notion. At Broad Arrow's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa D'Este auction, someone paid €934,375 for this 2003 NSX-R. At today's exchange rate, that's $1,061,866. Sheesh . A little history should help put this crazy number into context. The NSX-R was the lightest, most focused, most special version of the original NSX—and one of the rarest. Honda made the NSX-R in two batches, first from 1992 to 1995, then again from 2002 to 2005 following a facelift. The second was by far the rarer version, with Honda building fewer than 140 examples, all for the Japanese market, according to the Broad Arrow listing.   This example is finished in the classic Championship White livery with color-matched BBS wheels and red interior trim. It has just 16,000 kilometers (9,942 miles) on the odometer, and naturally, it looks immaculate. ...

Alpine Wants to Take on Ferrari With a 1,000-HP Hybrid Hypercar

Image
Shortly after revealing its first crossover, the A390, Alpine hinted at something a bit more spectacular. Just like it's doing at Le Mans, Alpine wants to challenge the likes of Ferrari with a hybrid supercar. At the media reveal for the A390 yesterday, Renault CEO Luca De Meo confirmed to  TopGear   and others that Alpine is working on a supercar. The site also spoke with Alpine head Philipe Krief, who confirmed the supercar, due in 2028, would be a 1,000-horsepower hybrid, with a turbocharged V-6 driving the rear wheels and an electric motor for each front wheel.    "This car has three objectives," Krief told TopGear . "One is to bring Alpine up. You need this kind of car as it holds up all the rest of the range. Second, it's a laboratory of innovation, for the supercar, then for Alpine, and then for the whole [Renault] Group. Third, it will make a good business." ...

The Dodge Durango Hellcat Refuses to Die

Image
The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat was supposed to be a one-and-done. Dodge initially created this supercharged V-8 SUV for the 2021 model year only, but it proved so popular that the Durango Hellcat made a comeback in 2023. Unfortunately for Dodge, that pissed off a number of 2021 owners who thought they were getting a true limited-edition SUV. But the Durango Hellcat was too good to kill off. For 2026, the Durango Hellcat enters its fourth consecutive year of production, its fifth in total. It may just be indestructible.   Dodge revealed details on the 2026 Durango on Friday, though it only just confirmed the SRT Hellcat would continue for the next model year, offering no further information. The brand said it would reveal more in the third quarter of this year.  For 2026, the base V-6 Durango GT lives o...

McLaren Is Milking Its Le Mans History Again. But We're Here for It

Image
Thirty years ago, McLaren won Le Mans on its debut, with JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas, and Masanori Sekiya piloting an F1 GTR to victory ahead of heavily favored protoypes. It helped seal the legend of the F1, and made McLaren the only constructor to win motorsport's triple crown, with victories at Le Mans, Monaco, and Indy. To commemorate, McLaren has created the 750S Le Mans, which has all kinds of neat details that reference the F1 GTR. McLaren will build 50 examples, each in one of two color options. The Le Mans Gray references the livery of the Uneo Clinic-sponsored car that won, while the McLaren Orange is painted in the company's traditional racing color. The car features a new High-Downforce Kit (HDK), which consists of a much larger splitter and a carbon-fiber wing out back. You also get roof scoop, and amazing five-spoke "LM" wheels that nod to the OZ Racing wheels used on the first F1 GTR race cars. The wheel center caps are red on one side of t...

Dodge Charger EV Owners Are Reporting Unintended Acceleration

Image
Two words an automaker never wants to hear: Unintended acceleration. It nearly sunk Audi in America in the 1980s, and was a huge scandal for Toyota in the in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Both cases were totally unfounded, caused by user error, damaged both brands' reputation regardless. Now, a handful of Charger Daytona EV owners, including Edmunds.com, have reported unintended acceleration in their cars. Edmunds's 2024 Charger Daytona Scat Pack, which it owns and reports on as part of its long-term test fleet, had a case of totally unexplained unintentional acceleration in the hands of one of its writers. The writer reported seeing a number of warning lights, and an indication that the car was going into a "low-power" mode, what seems to be a limp mode that allows you to drive the car slowly in case of a major fault. When depressing the accelerator pedal, the car accelerated "very sluggishly" according to Edmunds, but when lifting off the pedal, ...

'Zero' Demand: Ferrari Is Reportedly Delaying Its Second EV

Image
Electric performance cars have proven to be a hard sell. Even Mate Rimac, who started a company that makes EV hypercars, thinks so, and that's proving to be bad news for Ferrari. Reuters, citing anonymous sources, reports that Ferrari is delaying its second EV from 2026 to 2028, because right now, there's evidently "zero" demand for such a car.  The Reuters story, which  The Drive  brought to our attention, says that Ferrari's first EV will be a low-volume special model, and a "symbolic milestone model that will meet its promise to launch its first EV in 2026." The second electric Ferrari, which was supposed to arrive by the end of next year, will be a higher-volume production car.   Ferrari sells around 5,000 to 6,000 examples of each regular-production model over a five-year run, but one of Reuters' sources said that would be impossible with an EV arriving next year. There's virtually no customer interest, so Ferrari is delaying the ...

Lancia Is Bringing Back the Delta HF Integrale

Image
Stellantis is attempting something of a comeback with Lancia. Left for years to languish, Lancia recently launched a new Ypsilon hatchback, and soon, it'll revive the Gamma and Delta nameplates. Thanks to its unprecedented rally success, the Delta Integrale is one of Lancia's best-loved cars, and soon, it too will be back. Autocar brought our attention to a Tuesday release from Lancia where the brand confirmed the "HF Integrale" name will return for high-performance versions of the Gamma and Delta. "HF" for those who don't know stands for High Fidelity, and it was a label Lancia used for some of its highest performing cars, like the Stratos, Delta 4x4, and Delta Integrale. Featuring a distinct elephant on the badge, Lancia introduced the Ypsilon HF and HF Line last year.    Lancia is also back in rallying with the Ypsilon Rally4 car and the Ypsilon HF Racing, homologated for the entry Rally6. In a release announcing the Ypsilon HF Racing an...

The Porsche 911 Club Coupe Is a Carrera T, But Rarer

Image
For its 50th birthday, the Porsche Club of America worked with Porsche to create a special model commemorating the golden anniversary, the 2006 911 Carrera S Club Coupe. The PCA and Porsche collaborated again 10 years later for the club's 60th with the 2016 911 Carrera GTS Club Coupe, and with the club celebrating its 70th birthday this weekend, it was high time for a new special model. This is the 2026 911 Carrera T Club Coupe. Porsche and the PCA unveiled the car Sunday night at the club's annual Parade, this year held in Oklahoma City. As the name implies, it's based on the Carrera T, the lightest and most purist-aimed version of the current 911, and the only Carrera model with a manual transmission. Porsche will build just 70 examples—the first will go in its museum, PCA will raffle off the second, while PCA members will be able to purchase the rest.   Each of these Club Coupes has been finished in a unique shade of blue, Azurro California Metallic for t...
